Rollercoaster

Novels or Wishful Thinking?

Most people say novels are just novels. That what we feel reading them is nothing but wishful thinking. Ladies, is that really so?? 😭

Because… I had my own enemies-to-lovers moment.
Well… not quite lovers. More like almost lovers. A real rollercoaster.

I can’t claim to know what a cold man feels like in reality, but trust me, in books (and in chats), I’ve felt it. From witty banters he always won, to DMs filled with sweet words that suddenly turned cold—it was a rollercoaster, one that still makes me shake my head and laugh when I think about it.

How It All Started

Let’s rewind. I had just gotten my first phone after secondary school, and life was painfully boring. Until—boom—I discovered WhatsApp groups. And I don’t mean random small ones. I mean groups! The kind that could chew you up and spit you out over the tiniest mistake. Wrong spelling? Wrong punctuation? Misplaced capital letter? You were done for.

At first, I thought it was all shade. But in hindsight? Those groups made me better. I learned to proofread, type faster, use smarter words, and yes, avoid careless errors. In a way, they shaped me.

And that’s where I met him.

Our First Banter

Our very first interaction was—of course—banter. Let me confess something: I’m not great at that game. Sass, sarcasm, playful clapbacks? Oh yes, I can do that. But full-blown flawless-English wordplay, dripping with clever insults? That’s not my lane.

Him? He was a master at it. He came through with sharp comebacks, well-timed replies, and spotless grammar. And as you might guess, he always won. Always.

For me, that was strangely attractive. It was a green flag—my man shouldn’t be below me in brains or wit. But did I like losing all the time? Nope. So, I avoided him.

But avoiding him didn’t work. Out of nowhere, one day, he popped into my DMs. And guess what he asked for? My picture. Wild, right? 😅

The Cold Conversations

This is where things got interesting. There’s something oddly fascinating about cold conversations with a man. The colder he got, the more curious I became. He’d switch from warm and engaging to short and clipped, and somehow that made him even more intriguing.

No matter how dismissive I was, no matter how harsh, he stuck around. He wasn’t backing down. And slowly, he started making passes—smooth, clean, and almost convincing.

That’s why I call him my almost lover. He was close enough to stir something but far enough that reality kept me grounded.

Red Flags and Reality Checks

Ladies, let me tell you something: before you fall, know his face. He might know your weaknesses, your humor, your rhythm in chat—but you need to know his reality.

Appearances matter, and not in a shallow way. We all have our standards. We all know what works for us and what doesn’t. And in his case? Let’s just say the red flags started outweighing the green ones.

Yes, he was smooth. Yes, he was consistent. But those sweet chats weren’t enough to cover the cracks. And in the end, I had to face it—I wasn’t going to risk falling for someone who didn’t align with my values or standards.

So, I turned him down.

My Little Rollercoaster 🎢

And that’s my story. Nothing too dramatic, just my little rollercoaster. From chat groups to banters, from sweet talks to cold replies, it was a ride I didn’t expect but one that taught me a lot.

Sometimes, it’s not about the happy ending. Sometimes, it’s about the thrill of the ride, the lessons you pick up, and the stories you take with you.

So now it’s your turn. Have you ever been on a rollercoaster like mine? An almost-love that kept you guessing? Or maybe you’re on that ride right now?

Ladies, spill the gist—I’m listening. 😌✨- That_Beloved
