I know, I know I’m excited toooooooo! It’s been a while since I did one of these, and trust me, y’all don’t miss it as much as I do. 😌
Like, are you people not getting married again?? Because why has it been so hard to get your stories?! But no lamenting today we are here to talk about love, and babes, I already love this one. So let’s get into it, shall we? 💃🏽✨
Soooo, it’s 2020.
Twitter was hot with gist, Nigeria was hotter, and the entire world? On fire. 🔥 COVID was outside causing wahala, and we were all locked up like house cats.
Now, I’m not even mad at that because honestly? I loved lockdown. Fewer humans, more alone time. Introvert heaven. 🧘🏽♀️
But anyway, we’re not here to talk about me (yet), so moving on.
The point is, while the world was cooking and coughing, some people were out here finding love. I know right? Shocking.
Now don’t get it twisted this particular love story didn’t start in 2020. Nah. This was one of those slow burn, “two years later and boom” kind of love. The type that simmers beautifully and slowly.
They had interacted on the TL.
They knew of each other.
And yes, our girl slid into his DMs first BUT HOLD ON, not to ask him out o! She needed information. 👀
But let’s be honest, babes. She probably saw something she liked. Because I don’t know about you, but I’m shy and proud as f*ck, so if I ever enter your DMs as a man? Just know I’ve already imagined how our kids would look. 💍
But again… this is not about me (yet), so lemme behave. 😂
That first DM? It planted a little seed. 🌱
And like that annoying pineapple behind my house that’s taking FOREVER to grow it took two whole years to finally sprout into something sweet. 😭
They’d watched each other from afar, probably soft-stalked each other’s likes and tweets, and then BOOM 2022.
She sent another DM after a two-year hiatus… and this time?
Babyyyyy, it grew 🌹
In just three months, they moved from “cute mutuals” to real life lovers, and not just the crushy type. Like actual, soul-touching, “this could be it” kinda love.
Obviously, they had time to get to know each other.
Numerous calls. Late-night texts. Good morning messages. The whole talking stage shebang.
And what makes this one even sweeter?
They fell together. Not one person falling first and praying the other catches up. Nope. They dove in, headfirst, same time. 💞
Maybe it was Sekemi who reignited the spark with that DM (queen behaviour, tbh), but love? Love was mutual. Instant. Deep.
Ugh. I miss those early days. The “I like him but I’m pretending not to” stage. The “falling asleep on the phone” stage. The vulnerability marinated in butterflies stage. 🥺
One of the things that got her?
His sense of humour.
She’d caught a glimpse of it on the TL, but once they started chatting? Boom. This man was funnyyy.
And let’s be honest 2020 was dark and heavy. Everyone needed someone who could make them laugh, feel safe, feel seen.
While some of us (me) were out here getting our hearts broken during that same pandemic, these two were building joy in the chaos. 😩
But wait it gets better.
She also fell in love with his principles.
A fine man, with sense AND values?? What kind of dream combo? 😍
No but for real how could she not fall? AND she was growing too. Like, real personal development energy while dating him. Babes. A man that makes you better by just being present??
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again for the people in the back:
“When true love exists in a space, the energy of change, beautiful change is present.”
Even if the relationship ends, if it was real, you’ll look back and see growth. Not the wreck-you kind of love. I mean the heal-you, stretch-you, evolve-you kind. Period.
Now imagine loving a man so much and then your father meets him and falls in love too?? 😭
Her dad called him “a focused chap” after meeting him. He saw the passion, the growth, the steady drive in him.
He also saw how his daughter was blooming and that right there? That’s a father’s peace.
Now babes, I have to quote this next part directly because honestly? If I paraphrase, I might water down the magic.
When I asked about the proposal, Sekemi said:
“The proposal was whimsical. It was one of those things I saw and wished it could be done for me and it really happened to me. The effort and the planning was perfect and it was a seamless experience. He had told me that he had an office thing and he’d like us to go together and he asked me to organize our outfits to match. I made a red dress and wore red shoes with gold jewelry and got ready late that day. He was tensed because we were late and I was wondering if it was really a work thing because he’s never that tense. We got to the venue and I heard a violin playing upstairs and then I instantly knew. He had paid attention to me saying I liked violins and I wished I knew how to play. He walked me up the stairs into a gorgeously decorated room with warm lights, candles and beautiful red roses where all our friends were already seated. They stood up and all shouted ‘surpriseee!!!’ above the violinist playing a soulful ballad. I dropped a tear and my heart was full because it was really happening. The planner handed me a bouquet of roses and Ayo walked me up and popped the question. It was the best yes I had ever said.”

And finally… a love note from Sekemi to Ayodele:

Oh and i forgot to mention, if you’re reading this the day it drops, today was their wedding dayyyyyy. I know right?! I pray for eternal love and joy and peace for these two lovers.
